We are sorry to disappoint patrons this week.  Greedy Sony Pictures chose to postpone “War Room.”

Instead, the Adam Sandler comedy “Pixels” in 3D will play Friday, September 25 through Thursday, October 1 at 7 pm, and Monday, September 28 at 2 pm.

Honestly, critics panned this film, but we regular movie-goers kind of liked it. If you enjoy Adam Sandler, “Pixels” is the best Happy Madison (Sandler’s production company) has offered in several years!  “Pixels” also boasts NE Iowa native Michelle Monaghan (aunt of Quinn and Shane), Kevin James, Peter Drinklage, and Jane Krawkowski.

Donkey Kong lovers will totally get this movie.  The premise: Aliens view a 1982 video game championship and decide to declare war with Earth in a competition based on old arcade games. When the aliens attack, the President (James) seeks out a local arcade "loser," now on-call nerd (Sandler), who makes his living installing at-home gaming systems.

I confess, I’m not a gamer.  I have no tag line for this column other than “It’s On Like Donkey Kong!”  And I don’t even really know what that means.   But help us fight the good fight! Support your struggling local cinema!  Come see “Pixels!”  wakka wakka wakka

OCTOBER LINE-UP

Lots to choose from with “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,” De Niro and Hathaway in “The Intern,” Redford and Nolte in “A Walk in the Woods.” For Halloween, get your creep on with “The Visit,” and Drac is back in “Hotel Transylvania 2.”
