Richard Roeper calls “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” a Will Ferrell sports comedy without Will Ferrell and without the sports.  Roeper compared "Wonderstone” to “Ricky Bobby.” Reviews from the late Roger Ebert’s old partner in critique are now appearing on Ebert’s website.  He especially enjoyed the return of Jim Carrey, reaching deep into the trick bag that turned him into a star some 20 years ago. He's physical, he's intense, he's ridiculous — and he made me laugh more than any comedic character in recent memory.

I’ve been an Ebert fan for years and years, usually siding with him over his friendly adversary Roeper.  I pulled up his website, www.rogerebert.com, by habit again this week and was both cheered and saddened to find it revamped, showcasing the latest movie reviews.

Interestingly, www.rottentomatoes.com audience reviewers sided with Roeper, giving “Wonderstone” positive marks, while other critics did not.

I guess we’ll have to check it out for ourselves.  This satire about magicians, those both new and exciting (Jim Carrey as Steve Gray) and aged and out of touch (Steve Carell as Wonderstone), opens at the Palace on Friday, April 19 and runs through Thursday, April 25 at 7 pm every night and on Monday at 2 pm.

“Wonderstone is rated PG-13 for sexual content, dangerous stunts, a drug-related incident, and language.  Probably best to wait for “The Croods” next week for our youngest patrons.

Will Burt Wonderstone make a magical comeback?  We hope you’ll spend $3 and 100 hilarious minutes to find out!

MAY
