Emily Wilmoth, from Fresno, California is serving on team Cedar 3 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. She arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start her 10-month service term. Cedar 3 is made up of eight people from across the country who will serve together around the Midwest.

Emily says,” I went to New Orleans to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and I loved it. I knew I wanted to get more involved with volunteering. Coincidentally, the Habitat for Humanity site I was working on was where I heard about NCCC.”

Before Emily joined the NCCC program she was working at 2 restaurants and going to California State University, Long Beach.

Cedar 3’s second round project is at One Heartland, in Willow River, Minnesota

Cedar 3 will be assisting with camp programming and facility upgrades at One Heartland, which is a camp for people who are facing social isolation due to HIV/AIDs, homelessness, Type 2 Diabetes, and identifying GLBTQ. Facility upgrades include the staining of a goat barn, repairing a screen porch, moving the archery program area, and finishing a log cabin.

Q: What is the most challenging and/or exciting thing you have done? I traveled solo after graduating college and joining this program.

Q: What is your favorite book? The Harry Potter series, Gone With the Wind, and Hunger Games trilogy
