And now (for those of you who remember Paul Harvey) for the rest of the story. About a month of so ago, we were invited out to St Pius in Cedar Rapids to talk to the school about Honor Flight. The grades range from kindergarden to 5th grade. It was a whole school assembly. While there, a young man read a story he had written about his Grandfather who had gone on one of our flights. A very quiet and shy boy, he stood up and read his very moving story with a lot of confidence and feeling. We were all moved.

The school and Cub Scout pack #27 wanted to support EIHF. So for a donation, a student or staff member could purchase a star (red, white, or blue), write the name of a family member who either had been a veteran or is currently serving. The stars were mounted on windows at the school for all to see.

Last night, at homecoming while waiting for the aircraft to land, we were presented with a check from this project. They raised $2000.00 dollars for the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight. This was a wonderful ending to a very wonderful day. In the picture below are two members of pack 27 presenting the check to Kevin Vogel, EIHF President (rear-left) and WWII veteran and board advisor Mike Wilson (rear-right).

Here are also some pictures which should give you an idea of how popular their idea was at the school. I had tears in my eyes when I saw what they had done. Great group of kids, teachers, and staff. On behalf of the Board, thank you for supporting the veterans we serve.
