The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Seeman, Tippett and Volz present. Chairman Seeman called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Service Center. Members of the public are invited to join in during open session or watch the livestream at https://www.youtube.com/bentoncountyiowa. Full Resolutions will be available in the Auditor's office and at: www.bentoncountyia.gov
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve the agenda. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Volz moved/Tippett seconded: To approve the minutes of May 20, 2025. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve payroll checks numbered 143776 through 143785, ACH Deposits 61201 through 61369, vendor checks 253806 through 253813, claims 253814 through 253956. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Volz moved/Tippett seconded: To acknowledge the yearly liquor license renewal for Beyonder Resort at Lazy Acres, LLC. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye thereon. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve the Memorandum of Agreement that was made and entered into as of April 1, 2025 between Benton County Sheriff's Department and Chauffers, Teamsters & Helpers Local Union No. 238. The change was made to Article 15, changing one floating holiday to 2 personal days and adding Christmas Eve to the union's list of paid holidays. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve Resolution #25-41, Wage and Position change for Dawn Markland in the Sheriff's Office, she will now be a non-union salaried position effective May 31, 2025 with salary of $73,299.20. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve Resolution #25-42, Approving hiring Priyal Patel for the County Attorney's Intern temporary position, not to exceed 75 hours per pay period. This will go into effect June 2, 2025 with a rate of $22.50 an hour which half of that will be reimbursed by the Iowa Attorney General. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve Resolution #25-43, Granting Variance to the Sub-Division Ordinance for Scott Ford and Trisha Richart to wave the required provisions in Article IV, Sections 4.01 through 4.05; Article V, Sections 5.04 through 5.07; Article VI, Sections 6.02 through 6.03 and 6.05(f); and Article VII, Section 7.01. This is to allow for one new, non-residential parcel within Lot 13, Raue's Jomesa Estates in the NE NE of 32-85-9 . Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Supervisor Tippett reported on some of his committee meetings he recently attended including HACAP, Juvenile Probation and Mental Health. He mentioned that he would share some of the documentation from the mental health meeting including an MOU. Supervisor Volz attended Historic Preservations meeting and they are having their Iowa Summitt first of June and also mentioned their willingness to help with the clock tower celebration. Chairman Seeman attended the Landfill Commission meeting and reported that June 16 will start the digging of the new lagoon.
