Halloween night pulls out the stops for area children

Halloween night brought all of the families out for the evening. With stops at local nursing homes, and several of the area churches, kids were about to not only find candy but hot dogs, chips, and they could even make smores. Several neighborhoods were buzzing with families making their way to the homes in Vinton as well. For more pictures, click HERE.

Tree of Lights: Annual Campaign

The Tree of Lights is our major annual fundraising campaign and has been for over 25 years. Funds raised from the Tree of Lights supports the healthcare needs of the people who utilize the services of Virginia Gay Hospital and our clinics in Atkins, Van Horne, Vinton, and Urbana. People have the opportunity to purchase various lights or ornaments in memory of or in honor of anyone of their choosing.

HOT Grant Applications now being Accepted

In 2017, the voters of Vinton passed a ballot measure to establish a 7% hotel/motel tax within the City limits. The tax went into effect on July 1, 2018. Per the Code of Iowa, funds collected must be spent on recreation, convention, cultural or entertainment facilities. Vinton Unlimited has established the Vinton Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) Grant program to provide financial support to local organizations for community events, cultural and recreational programming, tourism and various other projects.

Tilford Elementary overtaken by 101 Dalmatians

101 Dalmatians (give or take) Even the staff at Tilford Elementary picked their costumes for the day. 101 Dalmatians showed up in place of the regular teachers and staff of the school on Monday. There were a few smaller dalmatians that climbed on the buses or scampered home before this picture was taken, or I'm sure there would have been more than 101!I'll let you count how man

Governor Reynolds to stop in Vinton, Tuesday, November 1

The campaign for Governor Reynolds announced on Monday that they will be making a stop, in Vinton tomorrow, Tuesday, November 1st at 1:00 p.m.Congresswoman Ashley Hinson and possibly other GOP leaders will be there as well.  Reynolds will be stopping at the Republican Headquarters located at  213 W. 4th St. in downtown Vinton.

Halloween activities bring more than 400 children to downtown Vinton

The Vinton Fire Department had several treats for the children as they stopped to see the firemen With perfect weather, Vinton Parks and Recreation hosted more than 400 children and their families in downtown Vinton. With several activities for the children on the courthouse lawn, children were able to have a bit of fun before taking part in the parade through downtown Vinton. Unfortunately the kids at the end of the line might have missed out on getting some of the candy provided by area businesses! Of course, there were dozens of princesses and a few mini firemen and policemen in the parade along with all kinds of characters.

2nd Annual Glow Fun Run brings close to 175 runners

The 2nd Annual 5K Glow Fun Run took off on Saturday, October 22. Funds raised through the run go toward trail improvement and scholarships for Vinton-Shellsburg seniors.Tyler Sean Entertainment brought the music and a bit of fun to the crowd as they prepared to take off. The fun affordable family event began at 6:15 p.m. with the Kids Glow Run with 48 children and and 125 adults following for a 5K which began at 7:00 p.

In a time when our country is divided on so many issues, we can all agree that those individuals who risked everything to protect our country and our way of life deserve our support and gratitude.

Eastern Iowa Honor Flight rescheduled for November 2, 2022 Flight #45 to host 90

On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight will re-launch Flight #45. The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight Board of Directors, along with many volunteer coordinators have been working diligently to ensure the veterans scheduled to board flight #45 have a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to visit monuments and memorials built in honor of their service and sacrifice.
