Vinton Noon Kiwanis install Officers for the 2021-2022 year
The Vinton Noon Kiwanis met at Pizza Ranch on Tuesday for their regular meeting. As part of the meeting they installed the new officers for the year. By: Co-Reporter, Isabel MullinexThe Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter proudly announces that George Haefner, Shelby McDonald, Maddie Moen, and Isaac Wiley will be receiving their American Degrees at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. The American Degree is the highest and most honored award to be received as an FFA member. To be eligible for this outstanding achievement, one must have received a State FFA Degree, hold an active membership for the past three years, completed classroom instruction, and have an outstanding SAE.
Two vehicle accident on Hwy 218 on Tuesday morning
A two-vehicle accident occurred on Hwy 218 south of Vinton at the intersection of 63rd St. and 24th Ave. Two pickups collided and landed in the southeast corner ditch of the intersection. There is no further information about the occupants of the vehicles at this time.Vinton Fire Department responded to the call along with the Benton County Sheriff's Department and the North Benton County Ambulance. Once again Vinton Fire Department serves the community
The Vinton Fire Department held their annual breakfast wrapping up Fire Prevention week. Serving pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, sausage and biscuits and gravy, juice, milk and coffee, there was a line out the door most of the time keeping the department on their toes. On Sunday they were able to serve nearly 900 people at their breakfast.This week the department has gone above and beyond to educate the children in the community about fire safety in both a serious way and giving the children a bit of fun mixed in. I'm sure many of us remember the time that we got to ride on the fire truck as a child. That was the highlight of our little lives up until that point. It was also for the Vinton-Shellburg Elementary students on Thursday. The first round of fire trucks to take off included five trucks one of which was the Pink Heals pink fire truck. Altogether the department gave around a dozen truck rides to the kids. Fun at the Fire Station
Every year during Fire Prevention week I get a new appreciation for our volunteer fire department. Carving out time during the day to present fire safety to our children each fire fighter takes time to teach. Not the same old, "stop, drop and roll" and leaving it at that, but showing the students their equipment and explaining how it works. The kids all got to spray a fire hose, and climb on the fire trucks, as well as put on the jackets and helmets. Does your Vinton-Shellsburg Elementary student need winter gear?
Coats for Kids The Vinton-Shellsburg Elementary Schools are seeking donations of new or gently used and clean winter coats and snow pants. Your donation will help provide a coat and/or snow pants for a student who may not be able to purchase these on their own. If you are donating a gently used coat or snow pants, you can bring them to Tilford Elementary.
Vinton Fire Department visits TLC (Trinity Lutheran Church) Preschool on Tuesday
The Vinton Fire Department is bringing Fire Prevention week to the children in the community. Their first stop was to visit the Trinity Lutheran Church Preschoolers. Part of the education each year is familiarizing the children with the firemen and the gear they might see in an emergency. The fire department will be making more stops this week at Tilford Elementary and will host the children at the fire station for more teaching about fire safety. Area Fire Departments always respond when anyone in the county asks for their help. They cover a multitude of emergencies and sometimes fun events. This week, they will be busy educating kids in the area schools. The departments in the area have made pancake breakfasts one of the highlights of the fall season. When you see the pancake breakfast signs go up, you know it's Fire Prevention Week.
