Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity pilots “Aging in Place” in Benton County

Owner-occupied home repairs and [upd]s targeted at the older populationCedar Valley Habitat for Humanity has received funds from the Benton County Community Foundation to assist with repairs and [upd]s to homes in Benton County. The program, called “Aging in Place,” is intended to help people over 60 and adults with disabilities extend the time they can remain in the homes they own.

Vinton Lutheran Home Receives Halloween Visitors

Tilford Elementary students reach out to residents of the VInton Lutheran Home Thursday morning and into the early afternoon, students from Tilford Elementary went for a short walk to the Vinton Lutheran Home. Dressed in their Halloween costumes, the students made their way to the center to brighten the day of the residents. Sharing the Halloween festivities, the students formed a parade and walked around the building stopping to wave at each of the windows to the residents smiling faces.

BCEM addresses area Kiwanis Club

At Tuesday's Kiwanis Club meeting, Scott Hansen of Benton County Emergency Management spoke to the club concerning his role and how the closing of the Duane Arnold Energy Center will affect the budget. The program is overseen by Hansen who answers, he said to 16 bosses. Those bosses include every mayor in the county, the Sheriff and one member of the board of supervisors make up the commission that oversees the program, all elected officials.

Legion holds Flag disposal Ceremony

American Legion George G. Luckey  Post 57 holds Flag Disposal Ceremony Legion members and Scouts honored worn flags with a solemn retirement ceremony on Wednesday night.Since 1937, the American Legion has helped honor worn American flags with a solemn disposal-by-burning ceremony.On Wednesday, members of the Vinton American Legion, retired dozens of worn flags by burning them, after reciting the ceremony approved by the Legion 79 years ago.

Or owners removing the wallpaper to discover signatures or the date of the installation of the old paper? One area family had heard stories about how the previous owner of their house liked to play golf, in the house.

City receives second Development Proposal for IBSSS

Kord Sellers of BWT LLC has submitted a second proposal to the City of Vinton for its consideration.  According to Sellers the City has a notice posted at City Hall asking for competing proposals.The City is scheduled to turn over the property officially on October 29th to Hobart Historical Restoration. Sellers, a new Vinton resident, was not aware that the city had asked for competing proposals back in 2018 citing the city's policy for advertising public notices and feels that this is the first chance that he has had to offer a competing proposal.

Trump Train brings 95 vehicles at the Start Line

The Trump Train boasted more than 100 cars to the event as well as several well wishers to the route Saturday afternoon found the town of Van Horne buzzing with several pickups decked out in Trump flags of every kind. While pickups were in the majority, there were also sports cars, minivans, suvs and sedans.  All were sporting flags or posters supporting President Trump. Most of the vehicles contained families or friends enjoying an afternoon cruise through southern Benton County's countryside.

School District adds COVID-19 Dashboard to Website

To keep students, staff, parents, and the entire community aware of how COVID-19 is impacting our district, we have implemented a COVID-19 dashboard to deliver vital information while protecting the privacy of those affected. The district has been working diligently and will continue to make adjustments and improvements as we learn more during this pandemic.

Vinton Lions Club presents check to Vinton Parks and Recreation

Vinton Lions make contribution to VPRD The Vinton Lions Club recently presented a $500 donation to the VPRD.The money was raised by the Lions Club Food Trailer during this years Farmer’s Market. Lions Club presenters included Charlie Garwood, Dennis Lausar,and Bret Nelson. Ryan Anderson , Assistant Director VPRD , accepted the gift which will be used to support a new rock climbing wall at the Recreation Center.

5 Union High School Musicians honored at Iowa All-State Auditions
