On Saturday, October 4th Virginia Gay Hospital Healthcare Foundation with the support of Vinton Parks and Recreation Department (VPRD) and other area health and wellness organizations will host the first Benton County Community Health and Wellness Fair at the Vinton Skate and Activity Center from 10am to 2pm - Admission is Free.

“The Community Health and Wellness Fair will provide important health-related information, screenings, and demonstrations for the family,” said Mike Timmermans, Virginia Gay Hospital Healthcare Foundation director and fair organizer.

Among the varied activities planned for the Community Health and Wellness Fair are demonstrations on exercise and cooking; health screenings, healthy living tips and information booths.

Free health screenings include: Blood pressure; Bone Density; Flu Shots (limited number of free vaccines available at 11 am and 1 pm; must be 18+ or older).

Since October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Virginia Gay Hospital will provide valued information and demonstrations about women’s health, including simulated breast disease pouches. These pouches will help women identify and feel the difference between normal breast tissue and abnormal. VGH will also provide information about bone densitometry, calcium-rich foods, how to avoid falls, and basic information on bone health.

Both fun and educational, the first Community Health and Wellness Fair is geared toward the family. Come early and register for the free giveaways and prize drawings. For parents, a free tot-lot for the kids will be available and staffed by VPRD staff so you can browse, ask questions and interact with community health experts while your kids play. A healthy lunch will also be available (11:30-1:30pm) at the concession stand for a fee.

Join us for the Community Health and Wellness Fair this Saturday, October 4th (10am-2pm) at the Vinton Skate and Activity Center in Vinton and admission is free.
