Thanks to a grant program, the Vinton-Shellsburg School District and the Vinton Police Department will work together on a School Resource Officer Program, with a police officer assigned to the school to help with security and related issues. A necessary step toward that program was Monday's approval of a 28E agreement between the school district and the City of Vinton. The School Board approved it on Monday; the council will also vote on approval at a future meeting. "The school district welcomes the opportunity to build on our partnership with the Vinton PD through the School Resource Officer program," says Superintendent Mary Jo Hainstock. "Our local police officers provide great support to our schools through their visibility both inside and outside the buildings and at school events.
