[caption id="attachment_24039" align="alignleft" width="300"] 2018 Viking-Vikette Hall of Fame honorees: Liz Hill, Phillip Miller, Dusty Schirm and Bob Fischer.[/caption] Robert Fischer (1973), Dustin Schirm (2006), Phillip Miller (2008) and Elizabeth Hill (2008) were the four inductees into the Viking-Vikette Hall of Fame during the halftime ceremony of Friday's Homecoming football game. Below is a summary of the achievements of the four honorees, as read during the induction event. Robert Fischer Bob was a 1973 graduate of Vinton High School, where he participated in football, track & baseball.  He was the starting quarterback every year through junior high and high school, earning All-conference and All-state recognition his senior year.  Bob’s very first varsity pass was a touchdown against Belle Plaine.  His most memorable game was his senior year against Anamosa, when he had a record-setting performance throwing 23 passes for 17 completions; for a total of 220 yards and 1 touchdown. This performance earned him statewide attention in the Des Moines Register’s Prep Parade.  He set nine school records that year, one of which stood for 25 years.  Bob was also a four-year starter in baseball.  In 1973 he led the Vikings to their first WaMaC Championship and led the conference in home runs.   Bob went on the play JV football at Washington State University and was a member of the Pac-8 Northern Division Championship team. Dusty Schirm Dustin Schirm, a 2006 graduate.  Dusty earned 7 varsity letters in Football, Basketball and Baseball.   In 2005, Dusty led the district in rushing yards and scoring, earning him All-district and All-state recognition.  He set school records for season rushing yards, single game scoring and most touchdowns in a game.  His favorite football memory is his freshmen football team going undefeated.  Dusty also received All-conference recognition in basketball and baseball.  He was a member of two WaMac West Championship basketball teams and one WaMaC West Championship baseball team. Dusty is a 2010 graduate of Iowa State University and is currently a Chemical Representative for Bayer Crop Science. Phillip Miller Phillip earned 11 Varsity letters in Football, Wrestling, Track and Baseball.  Phillip was a first-team all-district selection in football.  He was also a three-time district qualifier in wrestling, qualifying for the state tournament twice.  In 2007 he was the 7th place finisher at 215#.  In 2008 Phillip earned All-conference honors as the 215# silver medalist at the WaMaC Tournament.  He is currently in 8th place in Career Wins.  Phillip was also a two-time state qualifier in Track & Field.  In 2008 he set the Shot Put school record at 52’ 10.75”, which currently stands in 4th place in the V-S record books. Phillip went on to participate in Football, Wrestling and Track & Field at Central College.  He was a member of the 2009 Iowa Conference Championship football team that went on to qualify for the national playoffs.  He was also a two-time Iowa Conference champion in Shot Put, as well as a 2012 Outdoor National qualifier.  Phillip currently holds the Central College Shot Put record of 55’. Phillip is a 2012 graduate of Central College and a 2013 graduate of Dakota County Technical College.  He is currently employed by Alliant Energy. Liz Hill Also from the Class of 2008,  Liz participated in Volleyball, Swimming, Basketball and Softball, earning 7 varsity letters.  She earned All-conference recognition in basketball and softball, as well as All-district recognition in softball.  As the starting pitcher, Liz led her 2008 softball team to their first-ever WaMaC West Championship before taking them all the way to the District finals.  Liz threw 193 strikeouts that season, which is still a school record.  She currently ranks 7th place in the Vinton-Shellsburg record book for career wins, with 31.  Coach Parrot states that “he has never had a better competitor in his 16 years of coaching at Vinton-Shellsburg.” Liz was our 2007 Homecoming Queen and 2008 Vikette of the Year.  After high school she went on to play softball at Mount Mercy University, where she was a four-time All-conference selection and an NAIA National Tournament qualifier.  Liz is still the Mustang’s all-time leader in home runs and RBI’s. Liz currently teaches 7th – 12th grade Math at Eastern Allamakee Schools.  She is the Head Softball coach at Kee High where she has won five conference championships, and two state championships.
