Now I'd say I'm probably a pretty patriotic gal.
When I had all 6 of our kids at home and we loaded up the car for the 4th of July parade, until they were old enough to say, "Umm, no mom, I'm not wearing that..." they'd be donned in their red, white and blue outfits. When we saw the flag coming down the street they were all taught to stand and salute the flag.
This was one of the times that they knew there would be no arguing, and no sitting there scowling. I don't remember that there ever was.
From a young age our kids went along on many patriotic trips to parades, political rallies, county meetings, spent time in city hall and various other aspects of politics.
Our oldest was probably 6 months old when we attended a Right to Life rally with her in Des Moines. This is also the same kid we had to pry an old cassette recorder from her hear as she walked around the house listening to a city council meeting.
Politics and patriotism are intertwined in my veins.
I was pleasantly surprised when taking the detour through Palo, to happen to glance a flag in the yard of one of the residents that live there.
I've seen flags, but this one was HUGE!
I drove around the block to check out what I thought I saw, and I did.
The folks in this house are patriotic, as we used to say when I was in school, to the max.
As I approached the corner where I could get a good picture of their flag, I grinned like an idiot.
Well, you'll see it if you happen to turn on Third St. and go to the corner of Main.
But whatever you do, you must swing by and see this flag in person, it will make you sit up just a bit taller.
