Would you like to represent Vinton as a member of the 2019 Sesquicentennial Royalty and help us make history? The Sesquicentennial Committee is currently taking applications for the royalty. The Queen and a runner-up(s) will serve as the court for Vinton’s 150th anniversary celebration, which will be held from August 17-24, 2019. If you are a female 16-20 years of age as of May 31, 2019, you are encouraged to enter the competition. **We are hoping to bring back a bit of Vinton’s history by holding this contest. Starting in 1929, Vinton had a Sweet Corn Days Queen and court but the contest has not been held since 1959.**
Candidates will meet new people, gain self-confidence and enjoy a memorable experience while representing Vinton. Contestants must be current or past students of the Vinton-Shellsburg Community Schools or home-schooled, and must have a Vinton 52349 address.
Contest rules and an application form can be found at the Vinton Unlimited office, Cameron’s Clothing, Vinton-Shellsburg High School or at www.vinton150.org
The competition will take place during Vinton’s Party in the Park Celebration on Saturday, June 22, 2019, with finalists participating in a brief judging contest. The finalists will be notified by June 7th. The Vinton Sesquicentennial Queen and her Court will reign over the Sesquicentennial Celebration from Aug. 17-24th, including the parade and numerous other events.
**Scholarships will be awarded to the queen and her court**
