Our annual FFA Awards Banquet was held on May 4th, 2019 at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School where we had a variety of recognition of the FFA members. There was also a meal served by Merchant's Grilling as well as by the V-S Kitchen Staff and we thank them for all their hard work and effort into preparing an excellent meal.  As an Advisor, I am humbled and pleased with how outstanding our student body is and the great achievements they have earned. I want to thank the community members for coming to our banquet and supporting our FFA Chapter. Their contributions with their time, effort, and energy is never-ending and this chapter is in excellent condition because of that.  Below are the awards that were given out on Sunday's banquet:

Marge McDonald and Susie Henkle Chaperones for the last 4 years, gave an entertaining recap of the years in their welcome to the audience.

Brady Ortner lead the FFA Creed:

"I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds - achievements won by the present and past generations of agriculturists; in the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come to us from the struggles of former years.
I believe that to live and work on a good farm, or to be engaged in other agricultural pursuits, is pleasant as well as challenging; for I know the joys and discomforts of agricultural life and hold an inborn fondness for those associations which, even in hours of discouragement, I cannot deny.

I believe in leadership from ourselves and respect from others. I believe in my own ability to work efficiently and think clearly, with such knowledge and skill as I can secure, and in the ability of progressive agriculturists to serve our own and the public interest in producing and marketing the product of our toil.

I believe in less dependence on begging and more power in bargaining; in the life abundant and enough honest wealth to help make it so--for others as well as myself; in less need for charity and more of it when needed; in being happy myself and playing square with those whose happiness depends upon me.

I believe that American agriculture can and will hold true to the best traditions of our national life and that I can exert an influence in my home and community which will stand solid for my part in that inspiring task."

This year’s State Degree recipients are Franki Evans, Jordan Pattee, and Kaylee Sorum.
We were able to nominate 4 senior FFA members for the State Academic Achievement Award.  To qualify for this award, members have to have at least three years of membership and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Congratulations to Fayth Plower, Grant Ries, Morgan White, Isaac Wiley, and Eric Henkle.
As a whole chapter, we were fortunate to receive a few recognitions while at the state convention this year. We would like to take a moment to recognize the efforts of all our members through the next awards.
They are the:?
Ambassador Award: In recognition of our financial support to the Iowa FFA Foundation.
W.H.O. Public Relations Award: This is an award to recognize our efforts in publicizing our chapter and classroom activities. This would not have been possible without our chapter reporters.
Supreme National Chapter Award: Gold Award: 22nd place chapter in the state – advancing to the National level. This award recognizes chapters based on three overall categories of growing leaders, building communities, strengthening agriculture. The application was judged at the state level and received 22nd place. The application will advance to nationals and be judged in July for our national ranking that we will receive in October during the National FFA Convention.
