More than 500 citizens have requested a site survey for their property, and we’ve received quite a few questions along with all the sign-ups. We have answered most questions by responding to the individual who asked it, and we’ve expanded our website’s FAQ section so everyone can see both the questions we’ve received and the answers.
Unfortunately, we can’t answer the most common question yet, and that’s the one about the price.
The board of the Vinton Municipal Utilities plans to set rates in July after finalizing the project’s financing package and knowing what those costs will be. That’s part of the reason iVinton is offering the site survey and duct installation for free; no one expects potential customers to buy services without knowing the cost. Instead, we’re giving potential customers the chance to be Fiber Ready when the day comes by requesting the site survey and duct installation.
After the July meeting, all the information about products and prices will be available, and potential customers will be able to compare iVinton services with the competitors. Between now and the end of July is a great time for potential customers of iVinton to study their current internet bill to become better shoppers when prices are shared.
Here are some tips on comparing internet prices.
First, take a look at the speed advertised on your bill. Then determine the actual speed you’re getting by visiting any of the free speed testing services available, like www. speedtest.net. Determine the cost per megabit by dividing your entire internet bill, including fees and equipment rental, by your speed. Slow service speeds might come with a low monthly price, but often, the price per megabit is much, much higher.
Many things can prevent you from getting the speed you’re paying for. For example, there may be high traffic on the system, which won’t be happening with iVinton because it’s a new, 100% fiber broadband system. You might also be testing over a poorly located or outdated wireless system.
Putting the best equipment in the best location is why the site survey includes an inspection inside your home or business. The goal of iVinton is to deliver a great experience on the inside, not just high speeds to the outside of your home or building.
We’ll talk about frequently asked question in a later article.
Many people have asked if there will be data caps or costs for going over your
data plan. By the way, you can find the answer right now at www.ivinton.com.
