Vinton is awash in wood stakes, various fiber system construction equipment and small plastic flags in the ground. The plastic flags mark where various utilities are. One of the questions we had to ask about ourselves was what the wood stakes near the curb are for. Here’s your answer.

The stakes mark a location along the fiber route for various access points. They mark a location for either a pedestal or for what’s called a hand hole. A hand hole is flush with the ground. A pedestal will be very similar to the ones you see for the telephone company.

These are to be located in the city right-of-way, not on private property.

As we do with many questions and answers, we add them to the FAQ’s on the iVinton.com website. Take a moment to check them out if you haven’t been on the site.
