Stop into the library to check out our newest display, featuring award-winning artwork by local artist Victoria Humiston! Her piece entitled 'One Acre' just returned home after being featured in a year-long display at the U.S. Capital! Humiston is a 2024 graduate of Vinton Shellsburg High School and is the winner of the 2024 District II Congressional Art Competition.

Humiston said, "Farming is the backbone of America. This oil pastel art piece is inspired by Victoria's uncle and his farm, One Acre. The cow tags say 99 for the 99 counties in Iowa.

The vibrant, colorful cow emphasizes farming's importance while the pasture background is blurry, representing how the line between organic and chemical use farming has become blurred.

One Acre, was chosen by Congresswoman Ashley Hinson as the District II Congressional Art Competition winner. It was displayed in Cannon Hall within the United States Capitol located in Washington D.C. from June 2024 through May 2025."

Victoria was flown to Washington D.C. to see her artwork in the U.S. Capitol. She also met with Congresswoman Ashley Hinson
