The Union Community School District's Board of Directors approved a facility improvement plan. It will address outdated facilities and gaps in safety. Priorities include new fire alarm systems and intruder-resistant locksets, modernizing mechanical systems with new HVAC and LED lighting, and reconfiguring spaces to better serve educational needs.
A bus barn to enhance transportation operations is also included in the plan. The UCSD Board President, Ben Schemmel said, "Our goal is clear. We're committed to creating schools that are safe and adaptable."
The Board encourages the community to learn more about the proposed improvements and tax impact at upcoming meetings as well as on the district's website.
On the November 4, the bond referendum will be on the ballot which requires 60% plus one vote for approval.
