Lois E. Carman, 95, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with chaplain Joseph T. Kane of Mercy Hospice officiating. Interment will be held at the Urbana Cemetery in Urbana. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Lois Evelyn Strait was born Nov. 11, 1918, near Center Point, to Ben and Ella (Hanson) Strait. On March 4, 1939, she was united in marriage to J. Clifford Carman in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1991.
She enjoyed her flower gardens, scrap booking, collecting recipes and playing cards. She was a member of the Green Grove Club and the Urbana Card Club.
She is survived by her son, Larry (Marguerite) Carman of Urbana; her daughter, Mary Ann Cue of Vinton; her daughter-in-law, Sue Carman of Urbana; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Fay Strait of Center Point.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Dean and Ray Carman; her sons-in-law, Warren Cue, Ben Cashner and Don Culver; and her brothers, Claire and Alvin Strait.
