GARRISON:
Frances M. Wieditz, 97, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday January 20, 2014 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Garrison with Rev. Mark Leckband officiating. Interment will be held at the Garrison Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave. in Vinton. A Memorial Fund has been established.
Frances was born January 28, 1916 near Keystone to Gustov and Emma (Sindt) Offt and graduated from the Keystone High School In the 1930's she was selected as "Sweet Corn Parade Queen".
On September 18, 1938 she was united in marriage to Walter Wieditz . He preceded her in death on March 9, 2004. .
Frances was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Garrison where she enjoyed membership in the Tabitha Society. A great baker and cook she enjoyed preparing dinners for special family occasions. She also loved playing cards and tending her flower and vegetable gardens.
She is survived by her sons, Dean (Linda) Wieditz of Vinton, Gary Wieditz of Oelwein, and Glen Wieditz of Cedar Rapids; her daughter, Carole (Jan) Garbers of Van Horne; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Karl; four brothers; and one sister.
Her family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab for the loving care given to Frances.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your families. Frances was a wonderful woman and I had many good times (and meals) out on the farm. Steve, I knew she meant a lot to you. I am sorry I can\'t be at the service like I was for your Grandpa but please know that I will be there in spirit.
