VINTON: Elizabeth Marie “Betty” McIntyre, 95, of Fort Dodge and formerly of Vinton died Friday, January 17, 2014 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, January 20, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton with Pastor Michael Ferguson officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until service time at the church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.

Betty was born March 21, 1918 to Calvin Z. and Bertha E. (Wagner) Crew at Cedar Rapids. She graduated from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids and attended the Cedar Rapids Business College.

She was united in marriage to William Moore “Bill” McIntyre on May 5, 1951. He preceded her in death on December 11, 1995.

During World War II, Betty worked as a secretary at the Calvary School in Fort Riley, Kansas. She also worked as the Deputy Auditor for Benton County and later worked as a secretary at the Vinton Community Schools for seventeen years, retiring in 1980. After living most of her life in Vinton among her many close friends Betty moved to Fort Dodge in 2012 to be near her family and cherished her time there.

Betty was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton. She also enjoyed membership in Chapter M.Z. of P.E.O, T.T.T. Society and Mentor Literature Club.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers Newlin and Maurice Crew and one sister Janet Dixon.

Survivors include her son, William (Diane) McIntyre of Fort Dodge; three grandsons, Brett (Jessica) of Des Moines, Brad (Kaitlyn) of Fort Dodge and Bryce of Ames; one brother, David (Olive) Crew of Cedar Rapids; one sister Lenore Cullman of Long Beach, California and many nieces and nephews.

JY February 5, 2014, 10:13 am Betty was never to be seen without a smile on her face. She had a continuous zest for life and was a friend to all. She will be missed.
