Robert John Klostermann, 69, of Tama, and formerly of Vinton, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at his home in Tama.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 29, at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 28 from 4-7 PM at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama.
Robert was born on September 9, 1944, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Hilda (Link) Klostermann. He graduated from Vinton High School in 1962 and attended Loras College.
Robert was married to his former wife of thirty years, Carol Ann Jaeggi in 1965. They had five children. Bob has been with his fiancée, Janie Kennedy for the last eleven years. Bob sold shoes in Vinton and managed stores for Wohl Shoe Company and then owned and operated Bob’s Bootery in Tama for about twenty years. He worked for GTE in Grinnell for several years. Bob most recently was owner and operator of Tender Lawn Care, which is now operated by his son-in-law and daughter. He also ran a detasseling crew for many years.
Bob was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama and the Tama-Toledo Lions Club. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Boy Scouts of America assistant leader. He formerly was on the Tama City Council. Bob was a Lionel train enthusiast. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards with the family, the Iowa Hawkeyes, going to his coffee group with the guys and PBR Bull Riding. His greatest joy was spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Survivors include his fiancée, Janie Kennedy of Tama; the mother of his children, Carol Ann Jaeggi of Toledo; five children, Robert Klostermann of Tacoma, WA, Rich (Stacy) Klostermann of Tama, Ron (Teresa) Klostermann of Toledo, Russ (Kellee) Klostermann of Toledo and Carrie (Chris) Musgrave of Toledo; nine grandchildren, Michael, Cameron, Cassandra, Kaylee and Mitchell Klostermann, Natasha, Dylan, Jessica and Carissa Musgrave; one sister, Marilyn (Craig) Canady of Clinton; his stepsons, Eric, Todd and Kurt Cosselman; and one nephew, Tony Petersen of Clinton. Preceding him in death were his parents; and a niece, Jackie Petersen.
A memorial fund has been established.
