Jennie “Cathie” Simmons

     VINTON:  Jennie “Cathie” Simmons, 74 died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at her home in rural Vinton.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton.  Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton.  Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until service time at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to Miracles in Motion in Swisher, Iowa. 

     Cathie was born January 18, 1940 in Cedar Rapids to Jessie and Elza (Kalkofen) Curtis.  In 1962 she graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids with a Degree in Music where she was awarded the Crawford Music Prize.  In her leisure, Cathie enjoyed playing the organ and piano, raising horses and her dogs.

     She is survived by her husband, Jim Bright of Vinton; her son, Ted (Tané) Simmons of Cedar Rapids; her daughter, Diana Simmons of Marion and her sister, Elaine Dice of Cedar Rapids.

     Cathie was preceded in death by her parents and son, Christopher.
