VINTON: Mildred Knuth, 95, died Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, September 27, 2010 at Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave. in Vinton with Rev. Clarke E. Frederick officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the Family Center from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund had been established.

Mildred was born January 13, 1915 at Belle Plaine to Albert and Anna (Krajicek) Cherveny. She graduated from the Belle Plaine High School in 1933 and then became a country school teacher for five years. In 1938 she married Carlton Weaver and the couple farmed and raised their daughters in the Garrison area. Mildred was widowed at age 38. For the past fifty-six years, Mildred has been the wife of Lawrence H. Knuth. They were married in Davenport on April 4, 1954 and farmed near Vinton.

Mildred was a talented pianist and enjoyed sewing, cooking and dancing. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton and had served as a 4-H leader years ago.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence H. Knuth of Vinton; her daughters, Janice Geiken Spangler (Kent) of Lake Ozark, MO, and Sharon Voss Amato (Steve) of Vinton; her grandchildren, Todd Geiken, Tina Geiken Hoffman, Kelly Voss, Kara Voss Welling and Shawn Voss (Tess); five great-grandchildren; and her brother, Donald Cherveny; and her sister-in-law, Delores Cherveny.

In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by son-in-law, Gordon Geiken; her brothers, Albert and Robert Cherveny and Robert's wife, Violet.

Mildred was known by her ready smile.
