VINTON: Donald G. Selken, 81, died from injuries suffered in a traffic accident on Highway 21 on Saturday, July 15, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton with Pastor Mark C. Urlaub officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church the day of the service. Private committal services will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery near Atkins. Donald was born Jan. 29, 1936, in Keystone to Rudolph and Inez (Sindt) Selken. He graduated from Keystone High School in 1954. On June 8, 1957, he was united in marriage to Donna M. Krug at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins. She preceded him in death in 2007. Donald married Lois (McKenna) Schmitt on June 3, 2017, at St. Mary's of Mount Carmel in Eagle Center. Donald farmed in the Keystone area and sold Kruger Seed until his death. He moved to Vinton in 1999 and became a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He loved to play cards and enjoyed bowling. Donald is survived by his wife, Lois; his daughters, Debra (Doug) Yates of Palo and Dianne (Tom) Barfels of Cottage Grove, Minn.; his son, David (Denise) Selken of Keystone; his grandchildren, Danielle, Matthew, Lauren and Erin; his great-granddaughter, Kaylee; his brother, Duane (Darlus) Selken of Brooklyn; his mother-in-law, Patty McKenna of Waterloo; and Lois' children, Mike, Mark, Matt and Melinda.
