Netha Tharp

VINTON:  Netha Tharp, 98, died Thursday, January 28, 2011 at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton following an extended illness.

     Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, January 31, 2011 at Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave., in Vinton , with Rev. Ronald Sumption officiating.  Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.  Friends may call at the Family Center from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday. 

     Netha was born February 16, 1912 in Vinton to William and Eunice (Doty) Tharp.  On October 31, 1927 she was united in marriage to Harris "Buster Tharp in Vinton.  He preceded her in death on November 1, 1995 after sixty-eight years and one day of marriage.

     Netha was a member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church in Vinton.  She enjoyed crocheting, but her favorite activity was fishing with "Buster" in Wisconsin.

       She is survived by her daughters, Rosemaree (Kenneth) Williams of Vinton, Harrisetta Gibbs of Vinton, and Bobette (Lyle) Reiss of Southport, NC; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.

     In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son; two grandson, Ricky Lee Williams and Mark Reiss; and her son-in-law, John Gibbs.

     A Memorial Fund has been established.
