VAN HORNE: Paul Kelly, 85, died Sunday, February 20, 2011.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday February 26, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne with Father Brian Dellaert as Celebrant. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery near Van Horne. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 4 to 7 PM, on Friday where a Scripture Service will begin at 7 PM Friends may also call at the church in Van Horne after 9:30 a.m., on Saturday.
Paul was born October 19, 1925 at Van Horne to Roy M. and Florence (O'Brien) Kelly and graduated from the Van Horne High School.
During World War II he served his nation in the 71st Infantry of the US Army, taking part in the Battle of The Bulge and crossing the Rhine River. He was honored to be a member of a recent Veterans Honor Flights to Washington DC.
On June 27, 1950 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Lansing at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian.
Paul was a co-owner of Kelly Construction, with his son, Jeff, until his retirement. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Van Horne, the Knights Of Columbus, was a member and Past Commander of Thomas F. Bevins American Legion Post #148 for over 50 years, served as the Fire Chief of the Van Horne Volunteer Fire Dept., a member of the Van Horne Business Men's Club, and had participated in the Golden Gloves. Paul was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye Fan and he enjoyed playing cards at the Legion Hall.
He will remembered most of all as a great and loving husband, father and grandfather and great grandfather.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Lorraine of Van Horne; his sons, Tom (Linda) Kelly of Cedar Rapids, and Jeff (Sue) Kelly of Van Horne; five grandchildren; five great grandsons; his brother, Raphael Kelly of Keystone; his brother-in-law, Russell Weisert of Vinton; and his sister-in-law, Eunice Zweibohmer of Ossian.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Patrick Kelly; his sister, Bernadine Weisert; and his sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Bill Hite.
A Memorial Fund has been established.
