VINTON: Paul H. Smith, 79 of Vinton died Friday, April 1, 2011 at Virginia Gay Hospital following a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton with Father Ardel Barta as Celebrant. Private family committal services will be held at Mound Cemetery near Watkins. Friends may call at Phillips Family Center (605 Second Avenue) in Vinton from 5 to 7 PM on Monday. In accordance with Paul’s wishes his body has been cremated.

Paul H. Smith was born November 10, 1931 the son of George H. and Kate Trojovsky Smith at Cedar Rapids. He was raised in the Watkins area, graduating from Norway High School. On September 8, 1952 Paul was united in marriage to Yvonne Kness at Cedar Rapids.

Paul worked for many years for Asplundh Tree Service and later for LeFebure Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids. In his leisure time he enjoyed many outdoor sports including hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting.

In addition to his wife Yvonne of Vinton, Paul is survived by his five children, Mary (Clarence) Bilsland of Shellsburg, Dennis Smith of Vinton, Keith Smith and Connie (Al) Keller all of Cedar Rapids and Tracey (Kevin) Kirk of Robins; his Grandchildren, Shawn (Cynthia) Mahan, Jason (Catherine) Mahan, Mike, Lyndsay and Ryan Smith, and Spencer and Kate Kirk; his 9 Great-Grandchildren; his brother, George (Alice) Smith of Cedar Rapids; his sister-in-law, Theresa Smith of Norway; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert and Edward Smith and his sisters, Valera Gavin, Collette Gerling, Rose Bratton and Marguerite Ferris.
