Obituaries : Gary Lee Kersten

Gary Lee Kersten was born on December 5, 1952, in Waterloo, the son of Glenn and Ann Kersten. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 10:00 AM, at Crosspoint Assembly of God in Dysart.

He attended North Tama Community Schools and was involved with FFA, winning many ribbons. Gary lived on the family century farm and farmed with his brother for many years. They raised cattle, hogs, and chickens. He was also a custodian at Vinton Shellsburg Schools, retiring after 14 years. Gary was a member of Crosspoint Assembly of God in Dysart and enjoyed participating in Royal Rangers for boys and camping with Fellowship of Christian Frontiers for men.

On August 21, 2004, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Moses. Gary lived at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart for 5 years and then moved to Keystone Nursing Care Center where he passed away at the age of 69 from a stroke.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, LeRoy.

Gary is survived by a brother, Dennis (Donna) Kersten of Dysart and sister, Donna Stevens of Licking, Missouri.
