VINTON: James L. Eastwood, Sr., 76, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Friday, July 8, 2011 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E 6th St. in Vinton, with Pastor Larry Rodgers officiating. Interment will be held at Salem Cemetery in Van Horne, with Graveside Military Rites conducted by Emil H. Dutler American Legion Post #177 of Mt. Auburn. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday. A memorial fund has been established.

James was born July 23, 1934 at Solon to LeRoy "Roy" and Marcella (Hartman) Eastwood and graduated from the Solon High School in 1953 and also attended Kirkwood College for a year.

He entered the U.S. Army on Sept. 16, 1954 and was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves in 1962.

James was employed in the Research & Development Dept. of Link-Belt Speeder Mfg. in Cedar Rapids, Bowling Green and Lexington Kentucky, where he retired and returned to Iowa. He Also worked at P & H in Cedar Rapids for several years.

James enjoyed fishing and hunting, cooking and baking and loved yard work He was a member of Emil H. Dutler American Legion Post #177 of Mt. Auburn. He was a life long "die-hard" Cubs Fan. His greatest pleasure came from spending time with family and friends.

On August 30, 1968 he was united in marriage to Hazel Seeman at Rock Island, IL

He is survived by his wife, Hazel of Vinton; his son, James L. (Mandy) Eastwood, Jr. of Vinton; his daughter, Dixie (Wayne) Davis of Garrison; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his brother, Leo Dale Eastwood of Solon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
