VINTON: Juanita Mae Lougee, 87 of 1220 34th Street NE in Cedar Rapids and formerly of Vinton and Ottumwa died at 11:45 Pm on July 13th, 2011 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a courageous battle with two primary cancers. Juanita donated her body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for scientific purposes.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Phillips Family Center (605 Second Avenue) in Vinton with Rev. Leonard “Doc” Ranson of Cedar Hills Community Church in Cedar Rapids officiating. Friends may register one hour prior to service time at the Family Center on Saturday. Juanita was born April 17, 1924 to Herman Clay and Bonita Beatrice Holliday Miller at Ottumwa. She married John R. “Louie” Lougee on December 16, 1952. Louie preceded her in death on February 4, 1998.

Juanita was a resident of Ottumwa most of her life but moved to Vinton twelve years ago. In Ottumwa she worked many years as a waitress, Avon Representative and caretaker of Alzheimer’s patients. She also shopped and did light housekeeping and provided companionship for elderly friends of hers.

Juanita was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 41 years. She was also honored with a Volunteer Service Award for long-term distinguished and devoted volunteer service for the Iowa Department of Human Services.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Johns and four brothers, Robert, Billy, Harold and Herman.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda L. Weeks of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Loree Ann Carter of Center Point, Cynthia Lynne (David) Martin of Vinton and Spc. Harmand Rulen (Chasity) Weeks of Ft. Lewis, Washington; ten great grandchildren, Joy, Jeff, Jason, Tyler, Tommy, Hunter, Caitlyn, Caleb, Colton and Courtney; and four great great grandchildren, Will, Jordan, Kayden and Jaikub.
