VINTON -- Gene L. Stueck, age 68, of Vinton, died Friday, September 30, 2011 at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with Gene Spicer, CLP, officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, October 3 at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home and an hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Garrison Cemetery with military rites by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 and the Iowa Military Funeral Honors.

Gene was born July 15, 1943, in Vinton, the son of Harry Justus and Bette Jean Reinke Stueck. He attended school in Vinton, graduating in 1961. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves.

On July 21, 1963, Gene was united in marriage with Sharen Lee Wolf at the Lutheran Church in Garrison. Gene farmed for more than 40 years. He also drove school bus for the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton for over 14 years.

He was a member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church, George G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 in Vinton, AmVets Post 218, and Local 3012 Council 61 Labor Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his yard.

Gene is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Sharen, of Vinton; one son, Rodney (Angela) Stueck of Vinton; three grandchildren, Mitchell, Teal and Brody; three great-grandchildren, Kiara, Mariah and Chase; and one brother, Terry (Pat) Stueck of Holy Cross, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial fund has been established.
