Rachel Mae Duncalf, 93, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center, Keystone, where she had been a resident since this past March. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Van Horne, with Father Brian Dellaert as celebrant. Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, near Keystone. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. To honor Rachel’s request, the casket will remain closed at all times.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Friends Of The Van Horne Library.
Rachel was born Sept. 21, 1918, at Van Horne, to Clifford O. and Hazel Blanche (Mayhew) Stewart and graduated from the Van Horne High School.
On Feb. 15, 1939, she was united in marriage to Joseph Duncalf at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne. Rachel was the bookkeeper for her husband Joe’s business as a tank wagon driver for Farm Service. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1975.
Rachel was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, a charter member of the Sewing Club and of the Red Hats, served on the board of Friends Of The Van Horne Library and was a member of the Van Horne Library Book Club.
Rachel will be remembered fondly for her gingerbread men by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Deanna (Marvin) Stallman of Ely, Kathy (Larry) Schadle of Apex, N.C., and Richard (Cheryl Havlicek) Duncalf of Vinton; eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Patty (Ralph) Peterson of Van Horne.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Deane M. Stewart.
