VINTON – David R. Cashman, 62, of Vinton, died Monday, January 23, 2012, at his home following a brave battle with cancer.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Private family graveside services in Big Grove Cemetery, rural Garrison, will be held at a later date.
David was born November 5, 1949, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Russell and Irene Conklin Cashman. He was a 1968 graduate of Washington High School in Vinton. After graduation, he attended Universal Trade Schools in Omaha, Nebraska.
On July 3, 1970, David was united in marriage with Jacque Bruce at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa.
David worked as a metal fabricator at Hawk Built in Vinton for 12 years; at Speedy in Oelwein for 4 years; and eventually retired from Ideal Industries in Vinton on December 9, 2011, after 23 years of service.
David was an avid boater, and he loved the Mississippi River. He adored his children and grandchildren – they made him grin and chuckle many times.
David is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jacque, of Vinton; his mother, Irene Cashman, of Vinton; two daughters: Brigette (Heath) Ayers of Cedar Rapids and Nichole (Jeff) Silberger of Vinton; one son: Marc (Jade) Cashman of Cedar Falls; one sister: Linda (Larry) Rouse of Vinton; one brother: Jim Cashman of Shellsburg; two nephews: Bob and Larry Rouse; two nieces: Brittany and Emily Cashman; and six grandchildren: Destinee, Brady and Alicia Silberger and Caden, Avrien and Brixen Ayers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Cashman; one sister, Becky Sue; and one grandson, Maddox.
A memorial fund has been established.
