MT. AUBURN – Arthur A. “Art” Wilson, 91, of Mt. Auburn, died Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at the Mt. Auburn Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Callisan officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Interment will be in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Art was born January 23, 1921, on a farm near Mt. Auburn, the son of Clifford and Flossie Arthur Wilson. He attended country school and graduated from Mt. Auburn High School.

On August 16, 1941, Art was united in marriage with Medaine Gardner in Waterloo. The couple farmed in the Mt. Auburn area. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2002.

Art was an active member of the Mt. Auburn community. He was a member of the Methodist Church, on the Board of the Mt. Auburn Savings Bank, the President of the school board and a volunteer fireman. In Vinton, he was on the Board of Eden Mutual Insurance and active in Farm Bureau. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Art is survived by two sons: Duane (Lindy) Wilson of Muscatine and Doug (Kim) Wilson of Mt. Auburn; one daughter: Cheryl (Jim) Thayer of Eldora; one brother: Wendell Wilson of Mt. Auburn; 7 grandchildren: Lisa (Chip) Ainsworth, Amy (Nate Sickels) Schnieders, Kristin Melhus, Bridget (Jon) Primus, Matt Gore, Sunny (Cary) Hubner and Brian Wilson; and 7 great-grandchildren: Isaac and Caleb Ainsworth, Warren and Westin Sickels, Addison and Tyson Primus and Chase Melhus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Medaine; two brothers: Wallace and Waldo Wilson; and one great-grandson, Tyler Ainsworth.

A memorial fund has been established.
