VINTON – Susan Buchanan Bolin, 92, died Monday, September 17, 2012, at her residence at Windsor Manor in Vinton.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012, at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with Pastor Fred Darbonne officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 20, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Susan was born August 16, 1920, in Charlotte, North Carolina, the daughter of Henry and Cynthia McCammon Buchanan. She graduated from Knoxville High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, and attended the University of Tennessee.
On February 7, 1942, Susan was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, W.J. “Jay” Bolin, in Knoxville, TN. The couple was married for 69 years when Jay preceded her in death on July 23, 2011.
Susan was a member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. and Class & Lit. She enjoyed playing Bridge, flower gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
Susan is survived by two daughters: Cindy (Mike) Elwick and Barbara Bolin, both of Vinton; son W.J. “Bill” Bolin III and Patty Meixner of Vinton; one brother, Henry (Marge) Buchanan of Greenwood, SC; six grandchildren: Chris (Julie) Elwick of Decatur, IL; Dawn (Tim) Rall of Neenah, WI; Brian (Kristi) Elwick of Vinton; W.J. “Bill” Bolin IV of Atlanta, GA; Kevin (Jennifer) Bolin of Fenton, MO; and Jeff (Rachel) Bolin of St. Louis, MO; nine great-grandchildren: Karra, Kaila and Koen Elwick, Sam, Simon and Sydney Rall, and Madison, Cyrus and Victoria Elwick.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jay; and sister-in-law Dorothy Buchanan.
