Marian Mardeen Madorin, 79, died early Friday morning, June 7, 2013, at Virginia Gay Hospital following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. The Rev. Grant VanderVelden will be officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lanette Van. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Marian was born Nov. 18, 1933, on their homestead in Mount Auburn to George and Charlotte (Baird) Wilson. Sixth years ago she graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton. On Sept. 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Max Madorin in Vinton. Early in her marriage Marian was employed at Llyod’s Flower Shop in Vinton. Later she and Max owned and operated Madorin’s Auto-Rebuilders. Together she and Max built and opened Moose’s Rollarena which they operated for 18 years. Max preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 2009.
She enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes and sports on television, along with attending the many sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Marion had a talent with flowers, arranging and gardening. She was an avid collector. Her greatest enjoyments came from time spent with her family.
She is survived by her children, Michael Madorin of Vinton, Matthew (Tracy) Madorin of Mountain Green, Utah, Madonna (Matt) Merchant of Vinton and Mitchell (Debbie) Madorin of Littleton, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Georgia Thompson of Barnsville, Minn., Susie Hansen of Vinton, Darlene (Howard) Heaton of Perry and Dona (Don) Dales of Cedar Rapids; and her brother-in-law, Allan McNamee of Vinton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Harriette Wilson; her sisters, Evelyn Fleming, Mary McCall and Dorothy McNamee; and her stepsisters, Margie VonVoltenberg and Georgena Brown.
