Weekly racing, AIRS, nickel scramble on tap Sunday at The Bullring
Weekly points battles resume this Sunday, July 17, at Benton County Speedway.Along with a full slate of IMCA weekly racing, the American Iron Racing Series (A.I.R.S.) will be making its second appearance of the season at The Bullring, plus a nickel scramble is scheduled at intermission for the kids in attendance. More than 12,000 nickels have already been donated for the Lil’ Racer Car Club event.

Dylan VanWyk won the battle in lapped traffic and then survived a late restart to top the Urbana 5 Memorial Sunday night at Benton County Speedway.The eighth annual event, held to honor the memory of five area youth who lost their lives in a traffic accident in 2015, boasted increased prize money in all divisions and was headlined by the $2,300-to-win Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods presented by Christie Door Company. The annual fund raiser for the Shellsburg Area Community Group (SACG) had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather. The golf tournament will now be held on Sunday, August 7th at Wildcat Golf Course.A four person best shot golf tournament will begin at 9:00am. The registration cost of $60 per person includes 18 holes of golf, cart, a meal following and cash prizes for winning teams.

Benton County Speedway hosts Urbana 5 Memorial this Sunday
Five young race fans will be remembered this Sunday, July 10 when Benton County Speedway hosts the Urbana 5 Memorial.“We work very hard each year to forever keep the memory of Nikki, Quentin, Triston, Hunter and Zoey alive. They passed away on April 9, 2015 in a car accident. What better way to honor them than organizing something they would love, a dirt track race,” said race committee member Brittany Usher.
Verardi earns first win in Sprint Invaders stop at The Bullring
Luke Verardi had a little more reason to celebrate the Independence Day holiday this year.The Taylorsville, Ill., driver topped a 22-car field of 360 Sprints to earn his career first win when the Sprint Invaders made an appearance at Benton County Speedway.Verardi started on the pole and assumed command at the drop of the green. The spring sports American Rivers Conference all-academic team was announced Wednesday and 44 Central College student-athletes were honored for their academic and athletic excellence.The women's track and field teams had 20 selections while the men's team had 10. 360 Sprints are making a return to Benton County Speedway.Sprint Invaders join the IMCA weekly racing program this Sunday, July 3, to celebrate the Independence Day holiday for the second consecutive year at The Bullring.Jonathan Cornell made the trip from Sedalia, Mo., to top the 23-car field of 360 Sprints in last year’s holiday special.Weekly points racing continues Sunday in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by KISS Country 96.
