It's too soon for official Iowa high school baseball practice, but the Cornhuskers league gives several area teams, including Vinton-Shellsburg, a chance to meet on weekends for a few games.

On Sunday afternoon, the Vinton team played a double header on their home field against Cedar Rapids Kennedy. The visitors won both games, but the day helped players shake off the winter rust.

Coaches are Dave Charlier and Mike Tranel.

While the high school players were on the field, a group of future Vikings was watching. After a few innings the younger players went to a small lot near the field to play a little baseball of their own.
