More than 120 young athletes joined the Vinton-Shellsburg High School football players during Football Camp last week. At the end of the camp, players received T-shirts. A special black and gold football on display on the table with the T-shirts reminded the players that the Vikings made the playofffs in 2000 and again in 2009.  Coach Patrick Farley and his assistants are now leading the Vikings in the second day of football practice as the team seeks to return to the post-season for a second straight year.

The Vikings begin their season Friday, Aug. 27, at home against neighbor and rival Benton Community.

After that, the schedule includes:

Sept. 3, at South Tama

Sept. 10, vs. Maquoketa

Sept. 17, at Western Dubuque

Sept. 24, vs. Marion

Oct. 1, at Anamosa

Oct. 8, at Center Point-Urbana

Oct. 15, at DeWitt Central

Oct. 22 vs. Union
