Wolf Creek Rugby team enters second year; wins two games in DM area

Union athletes are among players in one of the state's fastest growing organized sports: Rugby.

Friday night in Altoona, the Wolf Creek Knights opened up with convincing wins over Urbandale 35-14, and SE Polk "B" 49-14. In the first contest, Isaiah Vaughan and Jordan Schmitz each scored twice and Sam Johnson scored once. The second match was set up to play Des Moines North HS but Wolf Creek won by forfeit setting up the game vs SE Polk B.

Wolf Creek players include:

Back row: Justin Schmitz, Zane Seuser, Sam Johnson, Dylan Stech, Alex McKinley, Head Coach DeAndre Moore, and Jared Jolley.

Missing for the team photo: Coaches Reid Frana and Ryan Gray and players: Ryan Miller, Derek Holschlag, and Kyle Gross.

Rugby continues to be America's fastest growing sport and this group of young men from the La Porte City and Dysart areas have joined the trend.
