The Union Knights defense led the way creating three interceptions including a 48 yard interception yard return for a touchdown and won at home during Senior Citizen Night in La Porte City.

The Knight defense was led by Jace Glenn ( 4TFL ) and Brock Hadachek (7 UT) who each had 9 tackles, followed by Jordan Schmitz and Daycen Douglass with six tackles each.  Interceptions by sr Clayton Thiele, sr Dylan Stech, and Schmitz highlighted the home opener.
 
On offense, Sr RB, Isaiah Vaughan ran the distance of the first play of the game with great perimeter blocking for a 50 yard run for TD.   He finished with 19 rushes, 184 yds, and three TDs. Soph Brit Rolison also had 8 carries for 16 yards.  Troy Hanus, jr QB was 5 of 10 for 111 yds and one TD, 2 ints..   One of the interceptions was a end zone toss to end the 2nd quarter.   Leading receivers for the Knights were jr Koby Alpers and sr John Boisen with two each, and Ryan Miller had one.  Boisen had the big catch of the night with a 69 yd touchdown catch from Hanus.
 
Dakota Hora was perfect on PATs, going 5 of 5, with one missed field goal attempt.   Boisen handled the punting chores with four punts for a 35.8 yard average.   
 
The Knights out-gained Marion 322 yards to 199 yards.
 
Union plays at home again this Friday vs. 3A Vinton-Shellsburg which also won Friday night over CPU.  The night is being tabbed "Patriot's Night" to support Patriot' Day across the USA.   In addition all communities (LPC, Dysart, Vinton and Shellsburg) are joining together to wear "Back the Blue" T shirts to support our local public servants.  Kickoff time for varsity is 7:30pm.
