Four perfect innings by senior Nathan Struve, followed by a perfect 5th inning thrown by David Bray, helped the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings open the 2017 season with a sweep of East Marshall.
Viking Coach Jim Struve offered the following summary of how VS began its season winning two games on the road:
The Vikings picked up their first win of the season with a 16-2 victory in 5 innings over East Marshall. Scottie Wirth got the win in Game 1. He threw 4 innings, allowed 5 hits and had 7 Strikeouts and 0 walks. Wes Edwards pitched the 5th inning and earned the save. Tanner Davis led the Vikings with 3 hits and 6 RBI's. Scottie Wirth, Will Edwards, Conner Miracle, and Cole Overton all had 2 hits apiece.
Game #2
Vikings kept the bats rolling, as they won 16-0 in 5 innings in Game 2. Nathan Struve and David Bray combined for a Perfect Game No Hitter. Nathan had 10 strikeouts and David picked up the save in the 5th inning. Scottie Wirth had a double and triple with 3 RBI's and Blake Bohnsack had an RBI double.
