Sports : Four VS golfers compete in State Co-Ed Meet

Vinton-Shellsburg High School golfers Brandi Gerber, Mike Delong, Rachel Tandy and Tanner Cummings participated in the State C0-Ed Tournament on Tuesday in Marshalltown. Vikette Coach Janet Woodhouse provided the following summary: State Coed Golf Tournament June 6, 2017 American Legion Course, Marshalltown Weather: sunny and pleasant Vinton-Shellsburg teams: Rachel Tandy (11)-Tanner Cummings(11) Brandi Gerber(11)-Mike DeLong(12) This is an alternate shot format; the girls teed off from the even tees and the boys from the odd tees. There were almost 50 teams in the 1A division and lots of 2017 high school State tournament qualifiers. The 2A (large school) played at Cold Water in Ames. It is a relaxed event meant for the participants to play the game in a unique format and to enjoy themselves. Each team plays in a sixsome and never with their team mates. Our two teams represented Vinton-Shellsburg well. Rachel and Tanner shot 86 for the 18 holes and placed 28th; Brandi and Mike shot a 91 and placed 38th. V-S teams were paired with Western Christian and Waterloo Columbus Catholic.
