Several times throughout the 2010 season, the Union Knights found themselves behind. But they always found a way to win. But their nine-game winning streak ended in first round play-off action Wednesday night. The Knights lost, 22-15, to Clear Creek Amana on a cold, windy night. CCA was known for its passing game , said Union Coach Joe Hadachek. But in the wind, the Clippers did much of their scoring thanks to the legs instead of the arm of their quarterback, Dylan Villhauer After stopping Union inside the CCA 10 on the Knights' first two drives of the game -- the second one at the 1-yard-line -- The Clipper offense went to work. From the 1, CCA ran the ball more than 50 yards on the first play, with Villhauer carrying the ball. Two plays later, a 28-yard touchdown pass by Villhauer gave the visitors a 7-0 lead. The Clippers kept the lead until the end of the second quarter. A series of possession changes -- aided by good punting from Union's Reid Monroe in a nasty wind -- gave Union some late scoring chances. After the Clipper punter put his knee on the ground to catch a low snap at the Clipper 10, the Knights scored on a 34-yard field goal by Monroe. A few minutes later, Knight QB Trev Hadachek found Brad Siebel in the end zone. The 26-yard TD pass gave the Knights a 9-7 lead with just three seconds left in the half. Union quickly extended that lead in the second half. Siebel recovered a Clipper fumble on the kickoff, giving the Knights a first down on the CCA 20. A few plays later, Wes Burnside put the Vikings up 15-7. But CCA dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, running and passing for big gains while keeping Burnside and the Union offense in check. After tying the game at 15, the Clippers began the drive that would win the game. On third and 23, Villhauer ran for 21 of those yards. A few plays later, the Clippers scored the winning touchdown. The PAT made the score 22-15. Union's final chance to tie the game ended with an interception with 30 seconds left. CCA advances to the next round, where it plays Williamsburg. Union ended its season at 9-1.
