Sports : Vikings win several events in Early Bird meet, finish 4th

The Vinton-Shellsburg boys track team finished fourth in its Early Bird meet Friday in Vinton.

The Vikings earned 89 points, behind Dubuque Wahlert, Solon, and Western Dubuque. Union Finished fifth and Benton Community, sixth.

Several V-S athletes won varsity events.

Jason Kirk won the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.49.

Ricky Jeray won the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:48:08.

The 4 x 200 and 4 X 400 relay teams finished first as well, with times of 1:33:61 and 3:32:12, respectively.

Junior Varsity winners for V-S included Darrin Charlier in the long jump and the 'A" 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 teams.
