Vinton Lions Club Foundation Second Annual “Battle for the Paddle” Pickleball Tournament – May 9 with Expanded Family-Friendly Events and Music! T-Shirt Deadline – April 24th!


The date is quickly approaching for a full day of fun, competition, and community spirit as the Vinton Lions Club Foundation (VLCF) hosts the Second Annual “Battle for the Paddle” Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, May 9, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Register online at (Registration includes t-shirt and lunch):

Expanded Family-Friendly Activities

This year’s tournament goes beyond the court, offering a full lineup of activities for all ages at B.L. Anderson Park:


Pickle Poetry Youth Writer’s Workshop
11:00 a.m. – Noon
Hosted by Vinton Public Library Children’s Librarian Kellie Roberts and Vinton Newspaper Editor Amy Stourac.
The VPL Book Mobile will also be on-site!

Live Music Lineup

  • 11:00 a.m. – Noon: Todd Frank
  • Noon – 1:00 p.m.: Cedar River Whalers
  • 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.: The Boogie Woogers

Food & Fun

The Lions Food Truck will be serving up favorites throughout the day:
            7AM – Breakfast Taco Burritos
            11AM - Tenderloins, tater tots, funnel cakes, and snow cones

With music, food, youth activities, and competitive play, the event promises something for everyone in the community.

This exciting event will take place at B.L. Anderson Park, with additional courts at the Vinton Skate Center (1703 C Ave). In case of inclement weather, all activities will move indoors to the Skate Center.

Proceeds from the tournament will support scholarships for Vinton-Shellsburg High School students, making every match played an investment in local youth and education.

Tournament Details

The tournament is an open, round robin, non-sanctioned doubles competition with three skill divisions:

  • Beginner
  • Intermediate
  • Competitive

The event is open to participants high school age and older.

Registration is $60 per team, which includes:

  • Official “Battle for the Paddle” tournament t-shirt
  • Complimentary lunch at B.L. Anderson Park (choice of hamburger, tenderloin, or hot dog with beverage)
