     VINTON -- It was an up-and-down day for the Vinton-Shellsburg volleyball team Saturday, as Coach Steph Miller's Vikettes went 3-3 in their own invitational tournament at Garrison Fieldhouse.
     Union (rated fifth in 3A), West Delaware (rated seventh in 3A) and Dike-New Hartford (rated fourth in 2A) all ended up 5-1, but D-NH won the team title on tie-breakers. The Knights fell to D-NH (21-15, 21-14), but defeated West Delaware (21-11, 21-17). West Delaware then beat D-NH (11-21, 21-14, 15-13).
     The Vikettes (now 8-5 in match play for the season) picked up wins over Alburnett (21-16, 21-12), Waukon (21-11, 21-19) and Janesville (22-20, 16-21, 15-11).
     On the other side of the ledger, V-S fell to the three co-champs, dropping a 21-8, 21-15 decision to Dike-New Hartford, 21-9, 21-11 to West Delaware and then closed the day on the wrong end of a 21-13, 21-9 battle with the Knights.
     Union added wins over Alburnett (21-12), Janesville (21-6, 18-21, 15-5) and Waukon (21-17, 21-16).
     The Vikettes get right back at it Tuesday night as they make the short trip east to take on Center Point-Urbana in WaMaC Conference action.
