Sports : Young area athletes compete in Hershey Meet in Vinton

Local young athletes hoping to win a place in the Hershey's National Track and Field Games contest of 2010 competedThursday, May 13, at the Karr Complex in Vinton.

Boys and girls of all ages competed in the softball throw, long jump and running events. Hundreds of competitors, accompanied by camera-toting and encouragement-offering parents, did their best. Many parents also served as volunteers to help run each event, serving as scorekeepers and organizers. Vinton Parks and Recreation Dept. employees also helped in the annual event, which is one of the VPRD's projects.
