Sports : Viking alum Miller wins Iowa Conference shot put event

Former Viking Phil Miller won the Iowa Conference shot put event on Friday for Central College.

PELLA -- Phil Miller, a 2008 Vinton-Shellsburg graduate and a senior member of the Central College track team, has won the shot put event in the Iowa Conference Outdoor meet. The shot put competition took place Friday in Dubuque, during the two-day event.

Miller's 55-feet even performance set a new record and was five feet better than the second-place finisher; he now seems headed for the National Championships in California May 24-26.
